History of Photography from the 4th Century to Present Day

The image above is of a Daguerreotype image.

Louis Daguerre invented the Daguerreotype process.  An advantage of the Daguerreotype process was that it reduced exposure time.  The disadvantages of the process were that it was expensive and images couldn’t be duplicated.

The image above is of a Calotype image.

William Fox Talbot invented the Calotype process.  An advantage of the Calotype process was that unlimited duplicates could be made from the original negative.  A disadvantage of the Calotype process was that it’s quality was not as good as the Daguerreotype images.

The image above is of a Wet Collodion process image.
