The typewriter was such an important piece of history because for years it was the only way to type.  Typesetting is the process of setting a material into type to be used for printing.  Linotype was the greatest advance in printing since movable type because it allowed type to be set mechanically instead of being set by hand.  The linotype keyboard differs from the keyboard we use today.  On the linotype keyboard there were different keys for uppercase and lowercase letters.  This is unlike what is on the keyboards used today, which includes shift keys and only one key for the uppercase and lowercase of a letter.
